Remembrance Sunday 11th November 2012

The 2nd part of my Press Assignment is to photograph one of the nine ‘big’ events between the assignment being sent and the hand in date of 12th December.  Me, along with most of the group, chose Remembrance Sunday, mainly because it’s outdoors and during daylight hours.

I went along to the Remembrance Parade and service in Burbage.  I have marched in the parade as part of the Burbage Rugby Club before.  Now, I don’t actually play rugby, but am married to the daughter of the club president, so got roped in a couple of times as they were short on numbers for the parade.  So I knew the format for the day.

This was sort of a one time only thing (this is why i’d done a few Bonfire night shots in case it was a washout).  So when I got up in the morning I saw bright low sunshine, which, despite being better than driving rain, was actually a pain in the backside.  My choice of position was dictated by the location of the sun and shadows rather than what I actually wanted to shoot.

I was really pleased with what I got in the end and managed to speak to some fascinating people. Including a gentleman who had recently retired from 15 years working in the photography department at MIRA, the car development place in Hinckley.  He was asking if I worked for the local paper as he wanted to know if they wanted any of his old kit.  I said I was interested and so took down some contact details.
