I was asked to get some more promotional shots for the Bosworth Blazers A team, wearing their new kit.  In the previous shoot, A’s v B’s, the A team had put the old kit on.  I’d used my experience from that shoot and am pleased with the results.

A friend of mine who plays for the Bosworth Blazers basketball club called me one evening to ask if I would go along to the friendly fixture between the A team and the B team.  They had new kit from new sponsors, would I be able to come along and take some team photo’s and action shots.  Plus I was offered petrol money and a pint afterwards. Well, I was chuffed to be asked, but also a bit apprehensive because I know the sports hall that they play in is quite dark for photography.  I knew the team photo’s wouldn’t be a problem, but action shots could be a challenge.

After a bit of experimenting while they were warming up. I went for my 50mm prime, 1.8f lens for the whole shoot at about 500iso.  On camera speed light was creating too many horrible shadows and I decided that I could crop anything that I couldn’t get close to.  As It happens I got full access around the court, so ‘zooming’ into the action wasn’t a problem.

As the kits are very similar, the A team played in the old kit.  The club have seen my photo’s and are happy enough to invite me back to shoot the A team in a league match in the new kit!

I was asked by the Managing Director to take some Team and Action photographs for the junior football team that he has sponsored and one of his sons plays for.  Below are a few of the shots, which I got some positive feedback for:

A colleague of mine at work has written a novel about a series of murders in Leicestershire.  He approached me about taking some shots for the cover.  This was an interesting project because the client had sorted out a model (one of his grandchildren), a location, Knighton Woods, as well as the shot that he wanted.  He was looking for a shot, in a wooded area, with the child behind a tree, or with at least half of the face obscured, so the child couldn’t be recognised.

I took several shots and passed them onto him to choose a favourite.  Here is a selection:

The shot that he actually went for is one that we’d not actually planned, i’d taken it more in setting up:

Our next HNC photography project is studio based.  Sekonda have lent the college a selection of prototype watches.  These were randomly allocated to us.  We have to then take a shot to go in a fictitious Argos pullout.

Below is a selection of my favourites from my first shoot:

Watch 1st Shoot 1

I think this is my favourite shot so far. Need have have some bubbly in the glasses though. Might also try and ‘compress’ it all a bit, get things a bit closer together so the watch is more prominent. Seeing as that’s what i’m advertising.

Watch 1st Shoot 2

I quite like the ‘dreamy’ look of this shot. Although it is a little boring and doesn’t tell much of a story about the watch. Seeing my camera reflection in the watch face is also a little frustrating.

Watch 1st Shoot 3

Really should have wiped the stainless steel first, you can see all of the little specs of dust!

January 2013.  Snow!  I wish i’d had a bit more chance to get out in the snow with my camera, but work gets in the way!  Here are a few shots that I took.  Generally whilst out walking the dogs.  I’ve also got the snowman that my wife and I built in the back garden!

So, whilst out shopping before Christmas, I ‘accidentally’ went into Jessops and treated myself to a lens that i’ve been looking at for a while.  A Tamron SP AF 90mm f2.8 Macro 1:1 Nikon fit. Below is a few of images that i’ve taken.  A couple of the clock on our mantle piece and a couple …
